About the Auhtor

Over the past 30 years,Sylvia Gunter has led groups, spoken, led retreats, done prayer counseling, and faced individual prayer challenges. All of Sylvia's resources are developed in prayer in real life situations in response to real needs. Believers around the world have graciously said that God has used these materials to encourage, strengthen, comfort, and equip them for deeper relationship with Him and effective intercession.

Prayer Portions and For The Familywas the first overflow of those experiences. Then God led Sylvia through her own back-side-of-the-desert experience, from which Prayer Essentials For Living In His Presence is the overflow. Sylvia's spiritual journey is evident in the "Intimacy With God" section. You can trace God's footprints in the healing prayers in the "Intercession" section. You can trace the source of her strength in the "Word Of God" section. God's new depth for her is visible in the "Worship" and "Repentance And Revival" sections. His new arenas where He wants to reveal Himself as Mighty Warrior can be seen in the "Spiritual Warfare" sections.

Sylvia lives in Birmingham with her husband John, now retired from his position as a telecommunications executive. They have three adult children (Charley, David, and Elizabeth), and two grandkids (Richmond and Margie Louise). Prayer Essentials For Living in His Presence Volume 1 by Sylvia Gunter

Praise for God’s Deliverance

DeWayne and I just finished a bible study on King David called Seeking a Heart Like His by Beth Moore.
One thing that really spoke to me is verse 20 where it says that He delivered me because He delights in me.
WOW, Thank you God, you really do know how to show up in a big way. You did it for ME! because you delight in ME

New King James Version (NKJV)

2 Samuel 22

Praise for God’s Deliverance

1 Then David spoke to the LORD the words of this song, on the day when the LORD had delivered him from the hand of all his enemies, and from the hand of Saul. 2 And he said:[a]

“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;

3 The God of my strength, in whom I will trust; My shield and the horn of my salvation,

My stronghold and my refuge;  My Savior, You save me from violence.

4 I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised; So shall I be saved from my enemies.

5 “When the waves of death surrounded me, The floods of ungodliness made me afraid.

6 The sorrows of Sheol surrounded me; The snares of death confronted me.

7 In my distress I called upon the LORD, And cried out to my God;

He heard my voice from His temple,  And my cry entered His ears.

8 “Then the earth shook and trembled; The foundations of heaven[b] quaked and were shaken,

Because He was angry.

9 Smoke went up from His nostrils, And devouring fire from His mouth;

Coals were kindled by it.

10 He bowed the heavens also, and came down With darkness under His feet.

11 He rode upon a cherub, and flew; And He was seen[c] upon the wings of the wind.

12 He made darkness canopies around Him, Dark waters and thick clouds of the skies.

13 From the brightness before Him Coals of fire were kindled.

14 “The LORD thundered from heaven, And the Most High uttered His voice.

15 He sent out arrows and scattered them; Lightning bolts, and He vanquished them.

16 Then the channels of the sea were seen, The foundations of the world were uncovered,

At the rebuke of the LORD,  At the blast of the breath of His nostrils.

17 “He sent from above, He took me, He drew me out of many waters.

18 He delivered me from my strong enemy, From those who hated me;

For they were too strong for me.

19 They confronted me in the day of my calamity, But the LORD was my support.

20 He also brought me out into a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me.

21 “The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness;

According to the cleanness of my hands  He has recompensed me.

22 For I have kept the ways of the LORD, And have not wickedly departed from my God.

23 For all His judgments were before me; And as for His statutes, I did not depart from them.

24 I was also blameless before Him, And I kept myself from my iniquity.

25 Therefore the LORD has recompensed me according to my righteousness,

According to my cleanness in His eyes.[d]

26 “With the merciful You will show Yourself merciful; With a blameless man You will show Yourself blameless;

27 With the pure You will show Yourself pure; And with the devious You will show Yourself shrewd.

28 You will save the humble people; But Your eyes are on the haughty, that You may bring them down.

29 “For You are my lamp, O LORD; The LORD shall enlighten my darkness.

30 For by You I can run against a troop; By my God I can leap over a wall.

31 As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven;

He is a shield to all who trust in Him.

32 “For who is God, except the LORD? And who is a rock, except our God?

33 God is my strength and power,[e] And He makes my[f] way perfect.

34 He makes my[g] feet like the feet of deer, And sets me on my high places.

35 He teaches my hands to make war, So that my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

36 “You have also given me the shield of Your salvation;

Your gentleness has made me great.

37 You enlarged my path under me; So my feet did not slip.

38 “I have pursued my enemies and destroyed them; Neither did I turn back again till they were destroyed.

39 And I have destroyed them and wounded them, So that they could not rise;

They have fallen under my feet.

40 For You have armed me with strength for the battle;

You have subdued under me those who rose against me.

41 You have also given me the necks of my enemies, So that I destroyed those who hated me.

42 They looked, but there was none to save; Even to the LORD, but He did not answer them.

43 Then I beat them as fine as the dust of the earth; I trod them like dirt in the streets,

And I spread them out.

44 “You have also delivered me from the strivings of my people;

You have kept me as the head of the nations.  A people I have not known shall serve me.

45 The foreigners submit to me; As soon as they hear, they obey me.

46 The foreigners fade away, And come frightened[h] from their hideouts.

47 “The LORD lives! Blessed be my Rock!  Let God be exalted,

The Rock of my salvation!

48 It is God who avenges me, And subdues the peoples under me;

49 He delivers me from my enemies. You also lift me up above those who rise against me;

You have delivered me from the violent man.

50 Therefore I will give thanks to You, O LORD, among the Gentiles,

And sing praises to Your name.

51 He is the tower of salvation to His king, And shows mercy to His anointed,

To David and his descendants forevermore.”

Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus by Alan Jackson

This morning while I was out jogging this song came to my mind as I was seeking my Lord as to how to close a book in my life and move forward. Struggling to take my thoughts captive he reminded me to turn my eyes to him and the things of this world would grow strangly dim...........Thats how........:o)

Old Self New Self

The Bible talks about the daily discipline of putting off our "old self" and putting on our "new self" in Christ. This is a skill that is critical to maintaining our freedom from sin. It is something that we'll be perfecting for the rest of our earthly lives. Paul wrote:

Ephesians 4:22-24 NIV
22You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; 23to be made new in the attitude of your minds; 24and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

The old self must be put off, because it is being corrupted by sinful desires and will otherwise lead us back into sin. Simultaneously, we must put on the new self and be "made new in the attitude" of our minds. Note that it is our responsibility to put off the old and put on the new, while God renews us in the attitude our minds.

How to put off the old self

Putting off the old self is synonymous with putting it to death. The old self is the part of us that is continually trying to pull us back into sinful habits and thought patterns (Romans 6:11-14). The lure of the old self can be powerful, especially when our memories remind us of the pleasures of past sin. Here are some suggestions on how to put off the old self:

Ask for help: Too often people try to resist temptations by sheer will-power. As Christians, we have the source of ultimate power and assistance available to us: Jesus. He knows the temptations we face (Hebrews 2:18) and will help us resist those temptations (Hebrews 4:15-16). Each day we can pray, "Dear Jesus, please help me put off the old self and put on the new self today. Please help me overcome any temptations that come my way. Thank you, Jesus. Amen."

Reckon yourself with Jesus: Reckoning with Jesus is basically aligning ourselves with him and his condition: dead to sin and alive to God. Paul wrote, "Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:11 NKJV). A way to reckon with Jesus is to recite key Bible verses about our condition. For example, using Romans 6:11 we can declare, "I am dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus my Lord. " Here are some other verses we can declare:

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. Galatians 2:20 NKJV

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV

Romans 8:1-2 NKJV
1There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed. 1 Peter 2:24 NKJV

Romans 6:4 NKJVTherefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
Stop letting sin dictate your actions: This is where we follow-up our faith with action. Since we believe ourselves dead to sin, we must no longer respond to its temptations. The two primary areas that we can focus on are our eyes and thoughts. For example, if we're watching a television show that we know contains tempting material, we can choose to switch channels or simply turn the TV off. Or, if a memory of a past relationship comes to mind, we can shift our thoughts to another topic instead of fantasizing over the memory.

Another aspect of this found in the ways that we have been making provisions to gratify lust. Paul wrote, "Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts" (Romans 13:14 NKJV).  Leaving  unlocked doors for the enemy will likely lead us back into bondage at some point. The key is to remove the obvious things that could tempt us to fall back in sin. Solomon wrote, "A wise man is cautious and turns away from evil, but a fool is arrogant and careless" (Proverbs 14:16 NASB). ( I will not be counted among fools)

I will take a moment to identify the ways that I'v been making provision for sin in my life. Next, I will consider what actions I can take to eliminate these provision.  "Dear Lord, Please reveal the ways I've been making provision for sin in my life and show me how to take my thoughts captive. Thank you, Father. Amen."

I'm sharing this post from another blog because it spoke to me about something in my heart and thought life that needs to die...... I know God has something for me that is sooooooo much better.

heartofthehomeblog: Do you have something that needs to Die..: "Do you ever wonder why it seems like sometimes God is taking his sweet ole time to come and save us from a trial that is going on in our l..."
