Some Days

I'm usually pretty good about keeping on top of things but sometimes we have unexpected distractions, some welcome some not so much or even business, could be a little too much play oooorrrr it could be that I'm spending too much time on the computer. hummmhmm :o)

This is one very messy laundry room!
Living in a two story house I find that if I do not make my bed as soon as I get up in the morning that I have a hard time getting back to it.

Of course this is the center of the house and is an on going chore.

This room I love and do not allow it to get too messed up very often. (sorry kids, Grammy has to have some sanity).

This is what things look like when the girls have a sleep over at Aunt Jana's
AHHHHH........much better, a clean kitchen.

Bed made.

Even the laundry room looks 10 x's better. This was work!
Now I'm off to play! Riding my horse in the beautiful Uinta Mountains.
I earned it! :o)

4-H lambs

Its been a project to say the least but what a great learning experience for us all.
Jaren and Portia raised two lambs (well there was a third but Jansen dropped out) for 4-H. After feeding and walking them all summer then we took them to the county fair where they showed them in showmanship and market judging. Portia got third place in her showmanship class. Both kids did a really great job. This was a three day process and on the last day the lambs were auctioned off. The kids get the money that their lambs sold for. The money will go into their savings accounts.

Portia's lamb brought $1,105.00
Jaren's lamb brought $690.00

They had to bathe them each day we were there

We sheared and bathed them at home before we took them to the fair grounds

I am one very proud Grammy! these kids did a great job for there first year, they learned a lot and if they decided to do it again next year (and I hope they do) then they will know what they need to do to improve and they now know what to expect and how much money they could get for their lamb if they were Grand Champion lamb, the Champion lamb sold for $15.00 a pound and it was about 130 pound lamb. That is almost two thousand dollars. All I can say is it better taste pretty good for $15.00 a pound.

VBS

The girls had a fun and crazy week at VBS. It was a western/ranch theme and there were singing cowboys and mini horses. They had crazy hair day and fun snacks. I worked in the kitchen doing the snacks for about 140 kids each day.

Pillowcase dresses for girls in Haiti

Portia and Jayda took part in a service project for the homeless children in Haiti. These are the children who's lives were devastated by the huge earthquake they had there.

This was such a great project for the girls to be involved in.
We made 10 pillowcase dresses. They were very easy and really didn't take a lot of time. This was perfect for both of these girls because they are just learning to sew. The dresses are actually made from pillowcases. They turned out really cute.

I sent pictures with the lady that took the dresses to Haiti of the girls modeling the dresses to give to the girls that will receive them. She will take pictures of those girls in their dresses and bring them back with her for us to see........We can't wait to see the girls in the dresses that we made for them. We pray that God will bless those girls that receive them and that their hearts will be touched and they will know that there is a loving God who cares about them and that there are people all over the world that care about them and pray for them to know Jesus.

FINALLY, Warm weather = bath time

Our beautiful white Boogie wasn't so white and was in great need of a bath. It finally got warm enough to bathe horses. As with every aspect of life around here I am never short on helpers.

Boogie grows the longest tail of any horse I have ever owned. I keep it braided and after being in a braid all winter it was in need of a trim.

This is what happens when you keep your tail in a braid all winter and do not take it out.

This is one way to get to the hard to reach places.

Got sunglasses? yer gunna need em!

Paris feeds Boogie some treats for being such a good boy.
Portia braids his forelock. Boogie seems to enjoy all the attention. He really was a good boy!!

Of course Paris had to give her horses a bath too.

Another Birthday Girl

The long awaited "5" has come for Paris. Complete with a homemade birthday cake, balloons, cousins, food, and don't for get the presents, of course there were summer clothes and a breathing faux puppy but the best part to Paris was LOTS OF SQUISHY STUFF!!! Paris loves anything squishy, especially if it is a snake or spider or anything that is weird. Paris, God has given you a zest for life and fun and animals and all kinds of critters, you are such a blessing! I can't believe you are 5. Happy Birthday little one.

PORTIA END OF SCHOOL YEAR

Graduation Day...can you tell it was a bit windy?

Portia as a rabbit in her opera

Paris had to try on Portia's costume. She really got a big kick out of herself.
Time to breath..... It's been a very busy month for Portia. She has had an end of year dance recital a school play/opera, field day, bowling day, swimming, a 4th grade BBQ/yearbook signing and 4th grade graduation. She has had lots of end of the year assignments to get those grades up. She did it though, she buckled down and worked hard sometimes even well past her bed time. I'm very proud of her! She has really showed me that when challenged, she can and will rise to the occasion. She won a metal for her science project, got several A's and B's (mostly)on her report card. This year she has learned to write in cursive and memorized all her multiplication facts. She has really improved in her reading skills too. WAY TO GO PORTIA!!!
